Coaster designer for the California Native Plant Society

My job as a graphic designer is to understand the client’s needs and execute it effectively. You will find the information below detailing, first, the graphic design request and second, the process. The client loved my designs so much that they come back to me each year. I’m on my third year creating floral designs for the California Native Plant Society. Client design request:

California Native Plant Society’s mission is to protect our state’s native plants and their natural habitats, today and into the future, through science, education, stewardship, gardening, and advocacy. Our nearly 12,000 members include loyal advocates, incredible conservationists, and passionate gardeners! Many of them are “Perennial members”, meaning they make sustaining monthly donations to the organization. Every year we give these members a small gift as a token of our gratitude. We’d like you to develop the design for our gift! This year we’ll give our members a coaster. To make it fun, we’ll showcase several plant designs and let the members vote to select the final artwork. So we’re looking for three native plant designs that would really pop on a coaster. The plants we would like you to feature are the Western Sword Fern, the Adobe Lily, and the Blazing Star.

My process:

I start with a cover letter that outlines the project, what I will create, and the time it will take. The outline gives you an idea of the review process and timeline. Here is an example:

I will approach this project by digitally drawing and designing your coasters, based on the above parameters.
I will create 3 different styles so your members can have fun choosing which one they like best. The coaster will be 4×4 in.
Once the designs are complete, I will send you proofs of your 3 designs
Once approved, I will set up a print-ready file of your designs.
